She spent six months at the OECD’s Environment Directorate, in a team analysing the economic aspects of biodiversity. Ms Csernus then joined the Ministry of Environment and Water, where she worked in the Department of International and EU Affairs, mainly in the fields of climate policy, air quality protection, water protection and waste management. Dóra Csernus represented Hungary in various UN, EU and OECD meetings on these issues.
Dóra Csernus became a member of the team of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Future Generations when it was established, and later, when working at the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice she was responsible for all environmental policy issues in the Department of Government Policy, and for coaching the State Secretary for Public Administration on these issues.
Ms Csernus then continued her career in academia: when the Centre for Interdepartmental Studies on Sustainable Development was established at the University of Public Service, she was a leading expert in the development of the center, which focused on the holistic approach to sustainability. She is co-editor of the textbook Sustainable Development and the Tasks of the State, used at the University of Public Service.
With 12 years of experience in the public sector, Dóra Csernus entered the market of climate and environmental policy consultancy. She has worked for Klimapolitika Ltd and Climate Strategy 2050 Institute as a freelance consultant. She has been involved in a number of national and international projects, where she has had the opportunity to gain energy policy expertise as well.
As an external expert, she assisted the Equilibrium Institute in the writing of the institute’s first book; Hungary 2030 – A Future Vision for Hungarians. Ms Csernus was involved in writing the parts on climate policy, air quality control and water policy. Since 2023, Dóra Csernus has been the Director for Climate and Environmental Policies at the Equilibrium Institute.
She speaks French fluently and English at an advanced level.
Her hobbies include science fiction, fantasy, cycling and simply spending time with people and talking.
